About
Bookmark Stories
Bookmark Stories is a community art project that invites people to share their immigration journeys — whether their own or their family’s — through a simple, powerful medium: a bookmark. By writing or drawing on a small piece of paper, participants capture moments of transition, memory, and identity. These bookmarks become more than placeholders; they transform into personal artifacts that reflect the emotions, challenges, and hopes that come with moving between worlds.
At the heart of the project is the idea that immigration is a pause between chapters of life. Like a bookmark resting between pages, this experience holds space for reflection — on where you’ve come from, what you carry with you, and what you are building next. It is a time often marked by uncertainty, adaptation, and quiet resilience. Through this project, we honor that in-between space and give it a voice.
Bookmark Stories brings these individual reflections together into a shared collection, celebrating roots, journeys, and new beginnings. Each contribution adds to a larger narrative of movement and belonging, reminding us that while every story is unique, the experience of transition connects us all.
Your bookmark will join the community collection displayed at the Stanford Health Library, Hoover Pavilion.
Privacy & anonymity respected for all participants.
